Cedric Maupillier — the Toulon-born chef who trained at three-Michelin-star La Côte Saint-Jacques, worked under Michel Richard at Citronelle, and ran the kitchen at Central when it won the 2008 James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant — returns to upscale dining after a decade at Shaw's Convivial. Barbouzard, opened July 2025 in the former Kellari Taverna space on K Street NW blocks from the White House, is his French-Mediterranean homecoming: a Riviera-styled room by architect Olvia Demetriou, with a Champagne lounge, DJ booth, and day-to-night ambition. The menu reads coastal and generous — bouillabaisse Marseillaise, whole Dover sole, rib-cap steak-frites, caviar service, soufflé. The format leans glamorous and social, closer to St. Tropez than to a tasting room. For a downtown table where the Provençal cooking and the party share the marquee.
