Mottai is the U.S. debut of Brazil's Attivo Group, a hospitality company with more than a dozen locations across Brazil, set inside The Plaza Coral Gables on Ponce de Leon Boulevard. The culinary identity comes from Miami-born chef Brian Nasajon — formerly of Beaker & Gray — working with Executive Chef Moritz Esser, whose résumé includes the Michelin-recognized Cote Miami, and sushi chef Hiroshi Shintaku, alumnus of Makoto and Hiyakawa. The 150-seat room, designed by Saladino Design Studios and drawing on French Japonisme, was named one of the World's Most Beautiful Restaurants for 2026 by the Prix Versailles. The menu reads as modern Japanese with a lighter, shareable Miami lean: Sugi Katsu with cobia and ponzu aioli, the tableside Kinoko Hot Pot, Mango Chawanmushi to close. For a sushi-counter dining room where the design is as considered as the fish.
