Phil West, Arnold Eric Wong, and Steve Werney — the team behind the Financial District's The Treasury — opened The Beehive in 2018 inside the Valencia Street room that for a dozen years held West's Michelin-starred Range. The reinvention is a committed 1960s period piece: mid-century furniture, smoked mirrors, low-slung lounge seating, and a soundtrack of Stevie Wonder and the Rolling Stones. Era-apropos cocktails carry the bar — the gin-and-honey namesake, the tequila-based Thunderbird — alongside a fondue menu and throwback bites. The cocktail names nod to the site's own history: the Fickle Fox and Crystal Pistol recall the gay bars that occupied this address from 1965 to 1986. A stylish, knowing detour on a corridor not short on either.
